About Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is the field of building software that can perform tasks which normally need human judgement: recognising images and speech, understanding and writing language, making predictions, and deciding what to do next. Most modern AI is built on machine learning, where a model learns patterns from data instead of following hand-written rules.

Within machine learning, deep learning uses neural networks with many layers and powers most of today's breakthroughs. Large language models and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) build on it to power chatbots, search and writing tools, while AI agents go a step further by planning and using tools to complete tasks on their own.

Learning AI is a mix of maths, programming and practical experimentation, and it also means understanding fairness, safety and responsibility. The roadmaps below take you from the core ideas to building and running real AI systems, whether you want a career as an AI engineer or just want to use AI tools well.
